How To Read Interlocking Schematics

By | August 16, 2022

Reading interlocking schematics can be a daunting task for those not familiar with electrical engineering or circuit theory. However, with the right approach and some basic knowledge of electricity and its properties, anyone can learn to read these diagrams effectively.

The first step when interpreting any schematic is to identify all the components that are being used. This can be done by tracing lines from each component to its corresponding symbol. Once you have identified all the components, you should try to get an understanding of how they are interconnected by looking at the connections between them. The most common type of connection is referred to as the “switch”, which consists of two components connected in series. Other types of connections may also exist such as parallel connections, which are usually indicated by dotted lines indicated on the schematic.

Finally, you should also pay close attention to the labels used on the diagrams as they can provide important clues on how the various components interact. Labels can sometimes indicate the input and output parameters of a component, or it could simply provide additional information regarding the operation of the component. By understanding all the components, their connections, and the relevant labels, it becomes easier to understand the overall operation of the circuit. With this knowledge, you can then start making changes to the circuit to better suit your needs.
