When faced with wiring a Tacoma Fog Light, do-it-yourselfers may find themselves intimidated. But with the proper knowledge and the right parts, anyone can successfully wire a fog light onto their Tacoma in just an afternoon. Before beginning this project, be sure to have the correct wiring kit for your Tacoma fog lights, as well as a good set of hand tools and preferably a test light.
The first step in installing your Tacoma fog light is connecting all the wires from the kit to the switch. Start by running the black wire from the mounting bracket to the negative terminal of the battery. Make sure the wire is secured to the terminal so it won’t accidentally come lose. Then use a quick connect to connect the red wire from the mounting bracket to the positive terminal of the battery. After that, attach the two wires from the switch—black and white—to the ground and hot terminals on the fog light relay, respectively. Finally, the green wire of the switch needs to be connected to the green wire of the fog light relay.
Once all the components are wired together, turn the key and check the fog lights to make sure they come on when the switch is pressed. If everything works as it should, turn off the key and reconnect the negative terminal of the battery. And that’s it! With the wiring now complete, your Tacoma has been outfitted with new fog lights and should be able to provide improved visibility in poor weather or nighttime conditions.
